Introducing Glam-ma Marla

Glam-ma Marla leads an active lifestyle and she requires a hairstyle which can keep up with her.

We decided to go for the short n' sassy blonde route to accommodate her larger-than-life persona.

"Life gets even more glamorous after age 60!" declares Glam-ma Marla.

She is definitely onto something.

Stylist Alonda Presents: Service Industry Mondays

I remember my days working double shifts in restaurants while juggling school and financial responsibility. I didn't have a lot of time and all of  my money was going to keeping a roof over my head, utilities paid, and food in my tummy.

I've come a long way from those days slinging trays and taking food orders but, I still look back on the days with a lot of fondness.  I would like to take this opportunity to honor folks working in the following  service jobs:
  • Food service workers
  • Healthcare workers
  • Janitorial employees
  • Military folks and their families
  • Customer Service Representatives
  • Transportation employees
  • Retail employees

I am officially declaring Mondays to be "Service Industry" day! I will be offering special discount pricing  every Monday for those working in the above-mentioned service jobs.

Mommy Makeover: Tish

A good haircut can add youth and vitality to our appearance. Ironically, many of us cling to long hair as a way to hold onto a more youthful appearance. In reality, long hair can have just the opposite effect.

By the time Tish came to my stylist's chair, she was ready for a change. The busy wife and mother of two was looking for a more polished look.

Tish showed me a few photos of layered haircuts which she liked. In the end, we went for a layered bob and evened out her hair color. Her new look is stylish and yet easy for the busy mom to maintain.

As mommies, many of us barely have enough time to throw together a regular beauty regimen. Throwing our hair up in a bun or a ponytail is so much easier than actually having to style it. Also, some of us turn to  cutting and/or coloring our hair at home to save time and money.

This can be a big mistake!

Instead, I suggest to invest a little more money into getting a simple  yet stylish cut with basic highlights and/or lowlights.

Are you struggling to part with your long hair?

Mommy Makeover: Skye

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of helping a busy mommy get her "hairstyle groove back".
As a working wife and mother of a toddler, I can understand the strong allure of just devoting all of your time and energy to running your household. Eventually, you become too overwhelmed to spend any energy on yourself. Plus, you feel guilty for even thinking about doing anything nice for yourself.

But, to my mommies out there, we have to remember to spend a little extra time on ourselves.

Now, I am getting off my soapbox to introduce you to a great mommy named Skye. She is a busy mommy whom was in a huge hairstyle rut. Right away, I could see that all she needed was a layered cut and an all over color to give her style a new lease.

As we waited for her color to process, Skye was able to catch up on reading her gossip mags and take a much needed break. While she relaxed, I worked on other clients and attempted to learn my new I-Phone. Overall, it was a great day!

Are you a Mommy looking to get her "hairstyle groove back"?

Using Small Purchases To Get You To The Other Side...

As adults we may find ourselves trying to adjust to a new neighborhood, workplace, or even a different circle of friends.

The first few weeks of a major transition can feel like we are walking steeply up a mountainside with little or no safety gear. During these times of uncertainty, I treat myself with a small cosmetic purchase. Sometimes, it is a bottle of sparkly nail polish or a modestly priced lipstick.

These small purchases perk up my spirits enough to get me over to the other side of the mountain.

Freshening Up Your Hairstyle For Fall!

Fall is just around the corner. Have you given any thought as to how you are going to bring your hairstyle into Fall?  Chances are you are still recovering from sending your kids back to school or even dealing with juggling your own class schedule.

Here are a few tips for freshening up your look for the Fall season:

1. Take stock of your appearance
Do you need to retouch your highlights? Are your split ends taking over? Are your eyebrows looking woolly?

2. Schedule a consultation with your hairstylist
Are you thinking about your mousy brown hair jet black? Do you want to buzz your shoulder length hair into a crew cut? Before taking any action, discuss it with your hairstylist.

3. Maintain your appearance on a regular basis
During these tough economic times, our grooming expenses are the first to be slashed out of the budget. However, you can maintain your look for very little money. Beauty schools offer low cost mani/pedis and eyebrow waxes. Also, make sure to communicate to your hairstylist that you are seeking a stylish simple haircut that will not require frequent maintenance.

Blogging Is An Adventure!

I consider blogging to be an adventure of sorts. It's not as big of an adventure as parenthood has turned out to be...but, it is definitely unchartered territory for someone like me. First and foremost, my background is in Cosmetology with and an emphasis on being a hairstylist.

Yet, I would be naive to assume that the Internet has not revolutionized how the salon industry is being run. A majority of us hairstylists operate our respective businesses from laptops, tablets, or even our phones.

As a hairstylist, I come across people from all walks of life. But, the ones whom I relate to the most are the busy Moms whom park themselves in my stylist's chair for a bit of relaxation and pampering.
Of course, sometimes the Mom's relaxation is short-lived because they are being bombarded by calls and texts from their children, spouses, bosses, and others whom require immediate attention.

As a working mom of an active toddler, I can totally relate to being plugged in and barely having enough time for myself. This blog will contain hairstyling and beauty tips. I also plan on interviewing Moms from various backgrounds on their secrets for maintaining their particular brand of glamour.

Sometimes, my blog will consist of  nature photos which I have snapped with my cell phone camera.

Blogging offers so many different opportunities to express myself. I am definitely ready for this new adventure.
